The film is adapted from the 1961 Yale University experiment on obedience to authority involving electric shocks, where the experimenter indiscriminately increased the punishment voltage, surpassing the human tolerance limit. Every ordinary person, by simply following the rules, could unconsciously become a killer. The professor begins to doubt human nature, seeing ordinary people as mere puppets manipulated by others.
