Berlin often presents itself with a rich subcultural image, and the queer culture of West Berlin is an important aspect of this. This place is not only characterized by a vibrant party culture and gender diversity, but also hosts unique clubs. Additionally, various related organizations and activities, such as the Gay Museum, AIDS aid organizations, and the Teddy Award at the Berlin International Film Festival, have established their presence here. In fact, the birth and development of queer culture in Berlin was not smooth: before 1969, homosexuality was subject to government arrest and conviction. However, the gay community in West Berlin stubbornly survived and transformed the city into a metropolis belonging to the LGBTQ+ community. The late 1970s saw West Berlin reach a peak of sexual freedom, political freedom, and social integration; yet beneath this glory, the global AIDS epidemic cast a shadow over queer culture. The film focuses on the gay community in West Berlin, documenting their lives from the aftermath of World War II until the fall of the Berlin Wall. Political activists, club owners, musicians, and fashion designers all depict vivid scenes of various historical events. The film also reveals rare archival materials, guiding viewers through time to experience the historical and cultural charm of West Berlin. (Subtitle group: Xiao Yipu)
