In the 1870s to 1880s, Danish officer Gunner Dinesen (Viggo Mortensen), who had participated in the Prussian War, traveled from Denmark to Argentina with his teenage daughter Ingeborg (Viilbjørk Mollie Malling) to join the Argentine army and participate in the conquest of the desert.
