In the Wang family mansion, every woman who becomes the matriarch mysteriously commits suicide at midnight. The new matriarch, Xiqing, senses something amiss and begins an investigation, discovering that several matriarchs may have been murdered. Eventually, Xiqing becomes the matriarch of the Wang family, falling into crisis as the true culprit emerges. However, the true culprit is unexpected. Old Master Wang of the Fushoutang coffin shop passes away, and Mr. Wang decides to make a coffin for his father, breaking the rule that work must stop at sunset, leading to the summoning of malevolent forces. That night, the Wang mansion is filled with wreaths and coffins, and as the clock strikes midnight, the matriarch, Ningxiang, begins to cry and wants to end her life for some unknown reason. The servants believe it is Old Master Wang calling for the matriarch, while Mr. Wang thinks his breaking of rules has summoned evil spirits. The next day, late at night, it is discovered that the matriarch has hanged herself in her room, with the clock pointing to 12. Subsequently, the second matriarch, Yue'e, and the third matriarch, Guirong, also commit suicide at midnight, deepening the belief in the midnight summoning. However, the fourth matriarch, Xiqing, who has traveled abroad and is well-informed, does not believe in such supernatural claims. She believes that only by experiencing it firsthand can she uncover the truth, and thus decides to become the next matriarch of the Wang family.
