Aileen Wuornos (played by Charlize Theron) is driven to a life of sin by the misfortunes of her childhood. Her mother abandoned her, and she suffered from endless verbal abuse and beatings. To satisfy her drug addiction and make a living, she began selling sex in her early teens. She provided low-level sexual services to drivers on the highway, living a hopeless and endless life. However, the arrival of a young girl named Selby (played by Christina Ricci) brings a glimmer of hope to her heart, and the two begin a romantic relationship, living together.Selby's significant need for money leads Aileen to willingly hustle for her lover. She interviews for several jobs but is turned away due to her lack of knowledge and her rude, masculine demeanor. Left with no options, she returns to her old profession and encounters a deranged customer on the highway. In a fit of rage, she kills him and takes his money and car. From then on, Aileen begins to commit frequent crimes, becoming a ruthless female predator on the road.
