Due to her husband Director Jia's (Han Fei) opposition, Hua Jiafang (Wang Danfeng), who is eager to become a barber, can only practice her skills at home with a feather duster. When Director Jia has to go on a business trip, Hua Jiafang seizes the opportunity to become Barber No. 3 at the Sanba Barbershop. Soon, Hua Jiafang receives a letter from her husband saying he will return home, and in her flustered state, she messes up a customer's haircut, leading to complaints. Director Jia, disembarking from the train and catching up with an old friend Lao Zhao (Gu Yelu) whom he hasn't seen in years, learns that Lao Zhao looks down on his wife for being a restaurant server, prompting Jia to give him a stern lesson despite his words. Director Jia, having heard about the Sanba Barbershop, requests Barber No. 3, who has the title of "March 8th Red Banner Holder," to cut his hair. After some disguise, Hua Jiafang reluctantly steps up. Just as Director Jia is praising her skills, a journalist bursts in to interview Barber No. 3.
