No matter in which country or era, men are the original sin of a woman's life. Deep in the ancient water town of Jiangnan, a once pure flower sculpture (played by Zhou Xun) fell in love with the young painter Zheng Aou. Their love was intense and did not require a matchmaker's words. In mutual affection, the two lovers came together. When Huadiao's father learned the truth, he angrily chased Aou away. Aou promised to return and marry Huadiao, but he never came back. Soon after, Huadiao gave birth to her daughter Qiumei. She longed and waited for her beloved's return, only to find it was all in vain. As the times changed, it quickly came to the Cultural Revolution period. Huadiao (played by Gui Yalei), due to her background and early experiences, faced severe impact, which further affected her beautiful daughter Qiumei (played by Gu Meihua).
