The stunning and sexy stripper Angela (played by Anna Karina) has been living with her boyfriend Emil (played by Jean-Claude Brialy) for a long time. Angela desperately wants to have a child and build a life with Emil, but Emil enjoys the freedom of their two-person world and is not interested in marriage or having children, leading to inevitable arguments. After being repeatedly rejected by Emil, Angela, in a fit of anger, turns to Emil's friend Alfred (played by Jean-Paul Belmondo) and has an affair with him. Directed and written by one of the pioneers of the French New Wave, Jean-Luc Godard, the colorful widescreen film "Woman Is Woman" is his homage to Hollywood musical films. The film subverts the traditional musical format and is a “new realist musical.” It won two awards at the 11th Berlin International Film Festival in 1961, including Best Actress and a Special Award, and was nominated for the Golden Bear.
