Sun Tai Ah E (Xiao Fangfang), who lives in an old building and has a fiery temper, juggles responsibilities between her family and work every day, meticulously managing everything for her family and company. In her household, there is her husband, a driving license examiner (Law Kar Ying), her son attending Mindfulness University (Ding Zijun), her mother-in-law who treats her like a biological daughter, and her irritable and domineering father-in-law, who has a military background (Qiao Hong). Her husband's siblings live in a wealthy area and one has married to Taiwan, resulting in infrequent contact with them.
The sudden death of her mother-in-law turns her father-in-law into a forgetful old man; he only remembers old events and recognizes only Ah E in front of him, leading to a series of absurd incidents that leave Ah E's family overwhelmed. The daughter-in-law, content to be a homemaker, is unwilling to lend a helping hand. Ah E and her husband have tried sending her father-in-law to a daytime elderly care center and an old age home, but both options are worrisome. Moreover, the work that brings Ah E joy is also a source of frustration as she encounters younger, more capable competitors. However, her father-in-law expresses his gratitude to Ah E in his own way as she gradually feels less capable at forty.
