Paul, an elderly man living in the rural south of France, unexpectedly welcomes three uninvited guests during one summer vacation - his granddaughter and grandson from Paris. The differences in their perceptions, coupled with years of estrangement from his daughter, make it difficult for Paul to get along with the three young people.
