In the 1940s, as the civil war neared its end, Taiwanese doctor Yan Zekun (played by Takeshi Kaneshiro) frequently traveled back and forth on the cruise ship "The Peacetime" from Taiwan to the mainland to buy medicine. To support his family, he appeared calm on the surface, but his heart never stopped longing for his lover Yazi (played by Masami Nagasawa), who was forced to separate due to the war. His brother Yan Zeming (played by Yang Youning) was determined to engage in revolution on the mainland, leaving their family in turmoil. Yan Zekun had an unexpected encounter with General Lei Yifang's (played by Huang Xiaoming) wife (played by Song Hye-kyo), while the general's communication soldier Tong Daqing (played by Tong Dawei) was infatuated with the lower-class woman Yu Zhen (played by Zhang Ziyi). Along with the officer (played by Wang Qianyuan) and his wife (played by Yu Feihong), everyone met on the last voyage of "The Peacetime" to Taiwan, writing a tale of love and loss in a war-torn era. As the wheels of fate turn, what path will the small characters take in this grand era?
