At the end of World War II, the defeat of the Axis powers was certain, and Japan, as a member of the "Evil Axis," faced an enormous crisis. The Pacific battlefield suffered continuous losses, and two atomic bombs further destroyed the psychological defenses of the Japanese people. Hirohito, the Emperor of Japan (played by Issey Ogata), faced a painful decision at this moment. A dark cloud loomed over the city, and this small-framed man had an inner world that no one could approach... This film is the third part of Russian director Alexander Sokurov's "Rulers of the 20th Century Trilogy", which took a total of eight years to complete. The film was awarded Best Film at the 2005 Yerevan International Film Festival in Armenia.
