In 1893, after the death of her mother, Gabrielle Chanel's wine merchant father abandoned her and her sister Antoinette at the Aubaz orphanage. As adults, Chanel (played by Audrey Tautou) and Antoinette (played by Marie Gillain) made a living through sewing and singing in bars.
