The South-to-North Water Diversion Project is one of the greatest and most challenging public welfare projects in China's history. Dong Wangchuan (played by Li Youbin), as the deputy commander of this project, carries heavy pressure and earnest expectations from all sides. Dong Wangchuan dedicates himself to his work, and so does his wife, Zhou Xiaodan (played by Yu Feihong). Although they live in the same room, they rarely have the opportunity to see each other, let alone sit down and chat. Over time, their relationship has become distant and indifferent. Meanwhile, as Dong Wangchuan's most proud student and capable assistant, Jiang Hao (played by Duan Yihong) chooses to yield to interests and decides to switch to a private enterprise when he is most needed on the front lines, leading to Dong Wangchuan's great disappointment.
