"Kingdom of Heaven" features most characters based on historical figures, with Professor Hamid Dabashi from Columbia University serving as the film's chief academic advisor. In 12th century France, young blacksmith Balian (Orlando Bloom) unknowingly discovers he is the long-lost illegitimate son of the crusader leader Godfrey (Liam Neeson). In search of redemption, Balian follows his father to Jerusalem. Brave and noble, Balian, after numerous battles, becomes a renowned knight, earning the king's favor, while the beautiful princess Sibylla (Eva Green) secretly loves him. He is also deeply attracted to the local unfamiliar and unique culture. However, as the battles increase, bringing endless slaughter and plunder, Balian ultimately understands the true meaning of peace and the true love of life as taught by his father's words. The king of Jerusalem dies, and a new king ascends. The warlike new king incites conflict, and Saladin leads the Saracen knights to reclaim their holy land—Jerusalem. In this critical moment, Balian steps forward, vowing to defend the "Kingdom of Heaven"…
