Takehiro Hayakawa (played by Ryo Odagiri) is a successful young photographer in the big city, while his brother Minoru Hayakawa (played by Teru Kagawa) runs a small gas station in their hometown, inheriting the family business. On the anniversary of their mother's death, Takehiro returns to his hometown for a visit, where his former lover Chieko (played by Yoko Maki) works at the gas station. She laments not leaving with Takehiro back then. The young and impulsive Takehiro frequently clashes with their traditional and stubborn father, while Minoru, being the older brother, complies with their father. Later, the two brothers and Chieko go to a nearby valley for recreation, but unfortunately, Chieko falls to her death from an old, dilapidated suspension bridge. At that moment, Minoru, who was the only one by her side, becomes the prime suspect in her death, and Takehiro works tirelessly to help his brother, trying to prove it was an accident.
