In the early 19th century, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth faced invasions from Russia, Prussia, and Austria, and the empire was on the brink of collapse. At this critical moment, some Poles placed their hopes in Napoleon. They reached an agreement with Napoleon, where the French army would help the Poles save their homeland, and in return, the Poles would assist the French in fighting against Russia.
