In the harsh year of 1942 during the Anti-Japanese War, the village of Zhaojiacun on the edge of the Jiaodong anti-Japanese base frequently suffered from surprise attacks by Japanese troops. To reduce losses, the district military committee director Lei (Zhang Changrui) and Zhaojiacun militia captain Zhao Hu (Bai Dajun) gathered the wisdom of the people to devise strategies against the Japanese army: they united with nearby villages to form a militia joint defense, strengthening their armed forces while creating various minefields using homemade landmines to severely strike the Japanese army. The Japanese troops, in order to deal with the minefields, deployed engineers to invade Zhaojiacun, rampaging with burning, killing, and looting. The militia summarized their experiences in a timely manner, learning lessons and continuously improving their mine-making skills and deployment methods, leaving the Japanese army defenseless. As the wheat harvest season approached, the Japanese army planned to seize Zhaojiacun while the militia harvested the wheat, but little did they know, the militia had already set up a more intricate minefield.
