Quais (played by Louis de Funès) moved to a new city with his daughter Nicole (played by Geneviève Grad) to work and live. To avoid being ridiculed by her new friends, Nicole lies and claims that her father is a millionaire and owns a luxurious yacht. Her friends urge her to take them out to the yacht, and to keep the lie from being revealed, Nicole has to continue deceiving the yacht manager. The real owner of the yacht is a local mafia boss, who has just illegally acquired a priceless painting and hidden it in his prized car. Unbeknownst to her, Nicole's friends mistakenly think that the car belongs to her father and sneak it out for a joyride, leading to a series of deceptions that are eventually uncovered by Quais. When returning the car to its rightful owner, Quais inadvertently takes the painting with him, and is mistakenly thought to be the art thief.
