In the 1980s, the Central Asian country of Afghanistan was engulfed in continuous warfare. The nation suffered immense destruction, and the people were displaced. Ruthless bombings devastated the village and home of the elderly Dastago (played by Abdul Ghani), resulting in the deaths of nearly all his relatives, with only his 5-year-old grandson Yasin (played by Jawan Mard Homayoun) escaping, though deafened by the explosions. Despite his grief, the old man perseveres and journeys with his grandson to a distant mining area in search of his son, intending to inform him of the family's misfortunes. The dead are long gone, but the living must still toil along the long road... This film is adapted from the novel of the same name by director Atiq Rahimi and has won several awards, including Best Director and Jury Award at the 2004 Bratislava International Film Festival, the Regard Original award at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival, Best Director at the 2004 Ghent International Film Festival, the Silver Spike at the 2005 Flanders International Film Festival in Belgium, and Best Film and Best Actor award (Abdul Ghani) at the 6th India Asia Film Festival.
