Phil (played by Bill Murray) is a meteorologist who not only delivers humorous weather forecasts to the audience in front of the camera every day but also travels to a small border town called Punxsutawney every February 2nd to report on the local Groundhog Day celebration. In fact, Phil is quite disdainful of this holiday and starts to feel bored with his job. After completing his routine report for the year, he is eager to return home but is delayed by a sudden snowstorm. The next day, Phil wakes up to find that time has inexplicably frozen on the previous day's Groundhog Day, and everything from yesterday plays out again. A whirlwind of emotions including surprise, disbelief, thrill, joy, annoyance, anxiety, unrest, despair, and fatigue overwhelms Phil's senses. No matter how he chooses to spend the day, he is unable to make any progress and begins to live his life on repeat.
