The Duke of York (played by Colin Firth) suffers from a stutter, making it impossible for him to speak in public, which results in a series of humiliating moments at major ceremonies. His devoted wife, Elizabeth (played by Helena Bonham Carter), seeks out renowned doctors to help her husband, but traditional methods prove ineffective. By chance, she visits speech therapist Lionel Logue (played by Geoffrey Rush), whose methods are said to be unconventional. Although the Duke is not interested in Logue's peculiar techniques and their first session ends on a sour note, he discovers that he can read Shakespeare fluently while listening to music. This leads him to trust Logue, cooperate with the therapy, and gradually overcome his psychological barriers. After the death of King George V, Edward VIII ascends to the throne but abdicates in order to marry the widow Mrs. Simpson. Albert is unexpectedly called to become King George VI. His biggest challenge is how to deliver an inspiring speech before the outbreak of World War II...
