Writer Benjamin Mee (Matt Damon) has a natural love for adventure, but he is still struggling to cope with the pain of losing his wife six months ago. His son Dylan and young daughter Rosie are also having difficulty adjusting to life without their mother. Dylan gets expelled from school for stealing and dark art creations. Benjamin ignores his brother Duncan's advice and refuses to find optimism in new love, giving up his column writing. He plans to move to a completely new environment with his children. To his surprise, Benjamin's new home is an abandoned zoo!
