Abe Applebaum is a young prodigy detective who is now a 31-year-old adult, but he is only dealing with mundane and trivial cases and is troubled by his initial identity. His parents are deeply concerned about this, as Abe shows no interest in matters most relevant to people his age—like financial stability and starting a family. They can no longer force him to believe he is special compared to others and encourage him to abandon his ways. Instead of following their advice, Abe turns to alcohol to soothe his self-esteem. He works in an old-fashioned detective office, where the walls are adorned with clippings that need framing to commemorate his past achievements when he was at the height of his powers. Until one day, a client finally brings in an "adult" case—her boyfriend was stabbed to death weeks ago—clearly a victim of violent drugs. Caroline hopes that the young detective can find out who brutally murdered her boyfriend, restore his reputation, and bring the killer to justice.
