After the household contract responsibility system was implemented, in a rural area of Jiaodong. Party committee member Niu Bai Sui (played by Liang Qinggang) gathers five people with various deficiencies that other teams do not want into his own group, which people jokingly call the "Lazy Group." Ju Hua's (played by Wang Fu Li) daughter Ye Er (played by Fan Xu Xia) is dating Wang Xiao Shan (played by Sun Jian), who proposes to break up upon hearing that his future mother-in-law has joined the "Lazy Group."
