The story revolves around the 1970 Miss World beauty pageant, an international event that attracted billions of viewers worldwide. A newly formed women's rights organization believed beauty contests devalue women and strongly opposed it, even rushing onto the stage during the competition to disrupt and hinder its proceedings in front of the audience. Although they were immediately removed from the venue and the contest continued, a more shocking moment unfolded: the winner that night was not the favorite Swedish contestant, but Jennifer Hosten from Grenada, coming in as a dark horse and becoming the first Black woman to win the title in history. In just an hour, global viewers witnessed a blatant challenge to patriarchy, and Western beauty standards were entirely overturned, culminating in a beauty pageant that stirred a wave of change and delivered a significant blow for the feminist movement.
