In an ordinary residential area, the humble Okabe family of four lives. The male head of the family, Okabe (played by Yu Yamaguchi), is a salesman for Musashi Life Insurance, but his performance is mediocre, and his income is, naturally, quite meager. As a result, their home is shabby, his wife (played by Tomoko Namikawa) and children often go hungry, and they are sometimes pursued by their landlord for rent, while at other times they are confronted by other parents due to troubles caused by their son, Akin (played by Seiichi Kato). However, Okabe remains undaunted, because as long as he secures the wealthy Hoda family as clients, he can escape his impoverished circumstances.
