Mr. Stevens (played by Anthony Hopkins) is a devoted servant who once served as the butler for a renowned British lord. Currently, he is wholeheartedly managing the estate of his new master, Lord Darlington, becoming the chief butler there. A female housekeeper, Miss Kenton (played by Emma Thompson), arrives, who is capable and manages the household more flexibly than Stevens, leading to some initial minor conflicts between them. However, as time passes, the kind-hearted Miss Kenton subtly touches Stevens’s heart. Despite her repeated displays of genuine feelings and love, Stevens suppresses his emotions at critical moments, and his feelings for her become a story buried in silence. Miss Kenton painfully says goodbye to this unfulfilled love and leaves to marry someone else. As time goes by, when they meet again, the love in their hearts remains unspoken, with deep longing transforming into a farewell blessing at the train station.
