Dehua (played by Andy Lau) loves playing cards. Making a living through card games, he is known for his exceptional skills and good card ethics. However, his long-time partner Yongqi (played by Gigi Leung), who has poor card ethics, has never been able to marry Dehua, which frustrates her. Dehua's brother Tianle (played by Louis Koo) knows that his brother relies on playing cards to support their mother, who suffers from dementia, and himself, who is still studying. He decides to challenge Qingyun (played by Lau Ching Wan) to a card match, but unexpectedly suffers continuous defeats.
During a card game, Yongqi, unwilling to face Dehua's repeated dodging of their engagement due to his card ethics, curses him to "always draw bad cards," and leaves with Qingyun, who has also failed to find a mentor.
The curse indeed proves effective, leading to Dehua's family's decline. However, he remains optimistic, firmly believing that his "good friend" will return. In a Mahjong tournament hosted by his brother's company, he steadily competes against Qingyun once again. Will he emerge victorious this time?
