Zhao Fu (played by Lau Ching-Wan) was originally an arrogant young master, with a widowed mother who was eager for her son to settle down. Zhao Ji (played by Wong Cho-Lam) is Zhao Fu's cousin and the second heir of the Zhao family. Zhao Ji has always been dissatisfied with Zhao Fu, so he persuades Wang Di (played by Wu Qianlian), who performs on the street, to marry Zhao Fu in order to deceive him for the betrothal gifts. On the day of the wedding, Zhao Ji deliberately causes Zhao Fu to fall from a height, resulting in Zhao Fu becoming mentally impaired, and Wang Di takes the opportunity to escape with her father (played by Yuen Wah). Soon after, Wang Di encounters the homeless Zhao Fu, and out of guilt and sympathy, she takes him in. Under Wang Di's attentive care, Zhao Fu gradually recovers, and feelings develop between them over time.
