The dying father (played by Tu Men) has a glorious past; though a hero in decline, his heart remains wild and unruly, fiercely resisting the call of death with an unconventional and stubborn attitude. Shan Shan (played by De Ge Na), who has returned from abroad, is still in a rebellious phase and cannot integrate into her parents' lives, ravaging her own emotions and body. The mother (played by Ai Li Ya) has a completely different outlook on life and values compared to her husband and Shan Shan; she navigates the worldly life with ease, drawing both annoyance and sympathy. There is also the trivial, mundane aunt and the compassionate grandmother. In the brief time before the father departs from this world, the family intertwines, clashes, yet remains alienated from each other, filled with many unresolved life worries, mixed with various bittersweet flavors and complex emotions. Ultimately, they bid farewell to death, leave the past behind, and welcome new life, especially as Shan Shan's marriage and motherhood signify that she has finally found a true spiritual home.
