The first domestic long documentary themed on anti-"epidemic" produced collaboratively by the Shanghai Radio and Television Station Documentary Center, "A Warm Meal," premiered on March 16, 2020, at 21:00 on the Documentary and Cultural Channel, with simultaneous broadcasts on Dragon TV, Sina Weibo, iQIYI, bilibili, Archimedes FM, and other popular international video platforms at 22:45 the same day. This documentary, created collectively by netizens, can be seen as a grand grassroots visual collaboration. Since the outbreak of the epidemic, the SMG Documentary Center and Sina Weibo launched the #WuhanDiary# and #TrueRecordsOfGuardingRealFeelings# dual topic collection activities, wherein countless ordinary netizens and prominent bloggers from Wuhan uploaded visuals of their lives. The filming techniques in these clips vary from simplistic to professional, but everyone captured in the lens is portrayed in the most relaxed state, a moving moment that professional photographers fail to capture—the essence of the documentary—authenticity. "Since we can't enter Wuhan, why not use these materials to stitch together a documentary!" Although this spared them the initial filming phase, the workload in the post-production phase increased exponentially. Producer and chief director Zhang Lai, directors Jin Jianan and Wu Zhe, along with an editor, formed the post-production team and got to work intensively. The directing team saw every aspect of Wuhan residents' daily lives among thousands of videos. While there were many varied clips, "eating" remained an unavoidable topic, and the Spring Festival was the liveliest time at the dining table. How the people lived through the epidemic meal by meal inspired the title "A Warm Meal." After settling on a theme, the directing team began to sift through the materials intentionally, eventually narrowing it down to just over a hundred clips, contacting over 100 video bloggers through private messages on Weibo to acquire the original footage. Balancing the preservation of the "raw feel" of netizens' footage while ensuring the final product's "professional quality" was no easy task for the directing team. After organizing the editing concept, the directing team communicated with each blogger to discuss reshooting relevant footage... Ultimately, they completed this long documentary powered by collective efforts within just over half a month. Notably, in addition to the 45-minute long documentary, "A Warm Meal" will also release six short spin-off videos, covering Wuhan's scenery during the epidemic, city transportation after the lockdown, pet life, home-bound fun, and other derivative content, offering viewers a complete "Wuhan album." Emotions are contagious, and this precious "warmth" began with the netizens' shooting and permeated the entire production process, and it is believed it will touch every viewer. In the face of the epidemic, everyone is standing together with Wuhan in their own way, moving forward and backward with China. Winter has passed, and spring has arrived. Warmth will never be absent; let us share this "A Warm Meal."
