This film tells the story of the Lu family in the rural village of the New Territories in Hong Kong, after the dark dealings in real estate development. The story begins when villager Luo Yongjiu (played by Louis Koo) accidentally kills his distant relative Lu Yongyuan (played by Jacky Cheung) while drunk. From then on, Lu Yongyuan's wife, Yuehua (played by Zhou Xun), vows to take revenge against him. Five years later, Luo Yongjiu is released from prison and discovers that the head of the Lu family, Lu Hantao (played by Tsang Kan), and his daughter Lu Yongyu (played by Ye Xuan), along with his son-in-law (played by Huang Lei), have amassed the largest real estate company in the New Territories, while Lu family brothers Lu Jinqiang (played by Lau Ching-Wan) and Lu Yongfu (played by Fang Zhongxin) are aggressively expanding their influence. Soon, a real estate tycoon in Hong Kong invites Luo Yongjiu to "discuss important matters." At the same time, a mysterious figure, Ah Zhu (played by Daniel Wu), reveals a secret message obtained through eavesdropping to Yuehua. He tells her that to seek revenge in this grand conspiracy, she must follow his instructions... Thus, various factions begin to act secretly. This film is the third installment in the "The Silent War" series; however, apart from the core concept of "eavesdropping," the story is unrelated to the first two films.
