Peter (James Caviezel) and Carla (Claudia Karvan) are a young couple living in Australia. Although they enjoy a comfortable life, their relationship has deteriorated for various reasons, and their marriage is on the brink of collapse. To mend their relationship, Peter decides to take his wife to Mona Beach for a weekend getaway. Their journey starts off on the wrong foot, with Carla complaining about Peter's extravagant spending and his tendency to waste money; Peter, on the other hand, subtly mocks her. While driving at night, the couple loses their way and inadvertently ends up on an unknown beach. The landscape is beautiful and deserted, allowing their tightly wound nerves to relax for a moment.
