This film is the second part of a trilogy produced by Luis Buñuel in collaboration with Mexican actress Silvia Pinal, financed by Pinal's husband, Gustavo Alatriste. The story begins with a lavish dinner. The Noble couple is hosting friends at home, but just as the guests arrive, the chef and servants suddenly leave, with only the butler Julio (played by Claudio Brook) remaining. After the feast, the guests enjoy a piano performance by one of the attendees, but once it ends, no one intends to leave. They all fall asleep in their clothes, and when they wake up in the morning, they find they still cannot leave; as soon as they approach the door, they feel an inexplicable reluctance. The group is mysteriously trapped for several days, and those outside cannot enter. Overcome by hunger, thirst, fatigue, and fear, these upper-class men and women begin to argue, cry, and even threaten to kill the host, attempting to break the "spell"… The film was nominated for the Palme d'Or at the 1962 Cannes Film Festival.
