Farmer Jason wants to monopolize the water source of Eldorado, so he sends gunman Cole (played by John Wayne) to drive the McDonald family (played by R.G. Armstrong) out of there. On the way to Eldorado, Cole reunites with his old friend Sheriff Hara (played by Robert Mitchum), who exposes Jason's scheme. In the end, Cole decides to abandon this unjust task. In an accident, Cole causes the death of McDonald's son. The forgiving McDonald forgives Cole's mistake, but McDonald’s daughter relentlessly vows to take revenge for her brother. Ultimately, Cole decides to leave Eldorado. Later, Cole learns that Jason has sent another assassin to McDonald, so he returns to warn McDonald.
