This film tells the adolescent story of John Lennon. Lennon (played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson) was adopted by his aunt Mimi (played by Kristin Scott Thomas) from a young age and did not reunite with his biological mother Julia until he was 15, during which his aunt and mother fought over him. Lennon's mother introduced him to music and bought him a guitar. Later, Lennon met Paul McCartney (played by Thomas Sangster), who was about the same age and helped Lennon improve his guitar skills.
