To protect the interests of major oil tycoons, U.S. authorities encourage resource consumption and impose a speed limit of 55 km/h for truck drivers (the most fuel-consuming speed). A group of truck drivers, nicknamed Duck and Pigpen, are extremely dissatisfied and choose to ignore the law, maintaining an economic speed on the road. They engage in a battle of wits with a corrupt cop, and the number of truck drivers grows. The government deploys military police for suppression, and ultimately, authorities blow up Duck's lead truck on a bridge, yet Duck miraculously survives and is hailed as a hero by the American public. This is the first American film introduced after China's reform and opening up.
