Five years ago in Hong Kong, Wei from the Shaolin sect and Shu from the Wudang sect were evenly matched in a hand-to-hand combat competition, prompting the judges to decide that each should train a representative to fight again. Five years later in Pittsburgh, after losing her job, American girl Zhen decides to go to Hong Kong to compete in the hand-to-hand combat contest for prize money, using it as a means to investigate her missing father's whereabouts. Upon arriving in Hong Kong, she is robbed by a gang of thugs but is saved by Shu. Shu takes Zhen back to her Wudang temple, teaching her the essence of Chinese Kung Fu and martial arts to help her compete in the tournament. Meanwhile, Wei, who runs a Shaolin martial arts school, discovers the martial talent of a homeless girl named Zhou Ling and decides to train her as her fighter. Wei has always believed that her brother Jace's suicide was due to Shu wanting to break up with him, leading to her resentment towards Shu. She hopes to defeat Shu in the tournament to relieve her bitterness. The competition gathers female martial arts masters from around the world, and after brutal battles, Zhen and Zhou Ling reach the finals. On the day of the final battle, severely injured Zhen turns the tables and reveals the true culprits behind her father's death and Jace's. Wei and Shu finally shake hands and make peace as they lead their disciples to study Chinese martial arts together.
