Mark (played by Sam Neill) is left confused when his wife Anna (played by Isabelle Adjani) mysteriously leaves home without any explanation. He suspects that Anna may have an affair with a man named Heinrich (played by Heinz Bennent), only to discover that Heinrich is also searching for the long-lost Anna. Consequently, Mark hires a private detective to investigate. However, as clues begin to unfold, the truth becomes increasingly difficult for Mark and others to believe. Anna's love interest turns out to be… The film won the Best Actress award at the 1982 Cannes Film Festival and the French César Awards, the Audience Award and Best Actress award at the 1983 Portugal Fantasporto Film Festival, and the Critics' Award at the 1981 San Paulo International Film Festival.
