Based on the science fiction masterpiece "The Lunar Trilogy" by Jerzy Zulawski, the story depicts humanity escaping the doomed Earth, with a spaceship crashing on the Silver Planet. Soon after, a movement to deify begins on the planet, leading to a division among the followers: one faction worships the foreign regime as a god, while the other views it as a demon. The corrupt nature of human greed is laid bare on this planet... This film is hailed as "a movie made for people from another world." Critics unanimously regard it as the most historical, ambitious, and postmodern philosophical science fiction film in the career of director Andrzej Żuławski, and it is a representative work of his return to his homeland to shoot in Poland. This controversial masterpiece sees Andrzej conveying his beloved theme in a highly stylized and primal manner: a postmodern fable. By the story's conclusion, humans not only alter their internal nature but also gradually evolve into a species that is between human and bird. This metaphor of transformation from within adds a fantastical element to this political fable of a science fiction epic. When the film was about 80% completed in 1977, the newly appointed Polish Assistant Minister of Culture banned its shooting and ordered the destruction of sets, props, and costumes. It wasn't until the democratization of Poland in 1986 that the film, along with other banned films, was unearthed. This film also discovered the potential of Cannes Best Actress Kristina Yanda; shortly after making her debut in this film, she became the favorite actress of Kieślowski and Wajda and a national icon in Polish cinema.
