Adapted from the award-winning Danish bestseller of the same name, Mary's lover Rasmus decides to move away from Copenhagen due to work commitments, relocating to the West Jutland Peninsula in Denmark. This causes a dramatic change in Mary's life, as she reluctantly moves with Rasmus to the windy town of Vejle. Although Rasmus quickly integrates into local life, Mary feels out of place. Over time, as she learns to listen more and speak less and begins to contribute a column of suggestions to the local newspaper, she gradually realizes that she might need Vejle just as much as Vejle needs her.
