The film is adapted from the original novel by Kōtarō Sawaki – former boxer Hironichi Hirogama, who lost a match due to unfairjudging, returns to the United States after 40 years and meets the heartbroken boxer Shōgo Kuroki, who also suffered a defeat due to judging. Shōgo pleads with Hironichi to teach him boxing, and they will strive “at the risk of their lives” to compete for the world championship.
