In order to cover the relocation of important Party and government agencies in the Luxi region and the headquarters of the 3rd Training Brigade, a squadron of the invading Japanese army and a large portion of the puppet troops were completely annihilated near Diaomengzhuang between Liangshan and Yuncheng. After this, the Japanese Army's Commander in Chief in Nanjing, Takamura Ningji, enraged and humiliated, ordered the Commander of the North China garrison, Yan Junliu, to launch an unprecedented large-scale sweep against our military and civilians in Luxi. In mid-January 1941, the 32nd Division and the 21st Division of the invading Japanese army deployed over 7,000 men and over 10,000 puppet troops, along with more than 20 tanks and over 300 vehicles, supported by more than 10 aircraft, to launch a "sweep" against the anti-Japanese base centered around Puyang County, Fan County, and Guancheng, attempting to encircle the 115th Division of the Eighth Route Army's 3rd Training Brigade. Brigade Commander Yang Yong and Political Commissar Su Zhenhua decided to send the Special Operations Battalion, along with the 9th and 10th Companies, to Su Village to hold off and distract the enemy (now located in Zhangzhai Township, Shandong Province), providing cover for the relocation of the Luxi district Party and government agencies, as well as the brigade and the 4th New Army’s breakout. They subsequently adopted a strategy of dispersed actions, avoiding direct confrontation, striking at weak points, and seeking opportunities to annihilate the enemy in counterattacks against this "sweep" by the Japanese and puppet forces.
