In the 1930s Shanghai, detective Zheng Haodong is invited by his long-time hometown lawyer colleague Zhou Haiping to search for the missing inheritance of wealthy businessman Lin Zhenjiang after his death. The heir, Lin Huiyun, is Lin Zhenjiang's daughter who has been out of touch for over 20 years. Zhou Haiping goes through great lengths to find her and brings her from Tianjin to Shanghai.
