By the banks of the Yagigawa River, Torajirō (played by Kiyoshi Atsumi) helps an elderly man who is in a predicament due to a broken strap on his geta. As a result, he gets the opportunity to visit the old man's home. The elderly man is a very famous pottery artist, and at his home, Torajirō meets a maid named Kaga-ri (played by Ryoko Ishida). Kaga-ri's husband passed away many years ago, and she entrusted her child to her mother living in the Tango Peninsula while she came to Kyoto to work alone. Originally, Kaga-ri was supposed to marry an apprentice of the pottery artist, but her stiff character made it unbearable for him, and he instead married someone else. Heartbroken, Kaga-ri decides to return to the Tango Peninsula. When Torajirō learns of this news, he also heads there, hoping to comfort her. Just before leaving, Torajirō's feelings for Kaga-ri suddenly explode; is his spring finally coming?
