Creasy (Denzel Washington) was once a cold-blooded assassin and special forces soldier, but after retiring, he is often awakened by nightmares of his killings. Unable to endure the pain, he turns to alcohol to numb his nerves. His friend, seeing this isn’t a solution, recommends he go to Mexico to work as a private bodyguard. Mexico City is a high-crime city with frequent kidnappings, where anyone can be taken, regardless of wealth. Creasy protects a millionaire's daughter, Pita (Dakota Fanning). The lively and adorable 10-year-old Pita quickly brings joy to Creasy’s life, becoming his angel. However, the good times don’t last, and Pita is kidnapped and murdered!
