After leaving Florida, Beth (Rebecca Hall) arrives in Las Vegas, a paradise for gold diggers, where she finds a job as a waitress. Although life is vastly different from her expectations, Beth doesn't have much energy to think or complain; each day, having enough to eat and a place to stay is already the greatest luxury. Gambler Dink (Bruce Willis) sees Beth's aimless lifestyle and decides to approach her, hoping she will become his partner, not realizing this choice will bring him once-in-a-lifetime luck. It turns out, Beth has a keen sensitivity to numbers and probabilities, and with her seamless cooperation with Dink, they dominate the casino scene, but they also anger Dink's jealous wife, Tulip (Catherine Zeta-Jones).
