Liz and Benny were both born into a family of color. At a literary gathering, Liz met Tony, a young and handsome white intellectual, and with a flirtatious enthusiasm, naive Liz abandoned her original suitor and embraced Tony, engaging in a sexual relationship with him. However, when Tony discovered that Liz was not white, especially when he saw her dark-skinned, thick-lipped brother, a sense of disgust arose within him. Liz suffered for a while, but eventually, the pursuit of a black youth pulled her out of the abyss. Liz's second brother, Benny, was inherently rebellious, always roaming the streets with a few friends. Though he himself was not white, he sometimes despised the crudeness of black people. Regarding the issues between races, he seemed to only observe as he walked along the street, detached but inevitably despondent.
