Tomasen (played by Riccardo Scamarcio) is born into a family of pasta makers, and it is clear that the significant responsibility of inheriting the family business will soon fall upon him and his brother Anthony (played by Alessandro Preziosi). However, Tomasen, who has different aspirations, dreams of becoming a writer and has kept his sexual orientation as a gay man hidden from his family.
During a family gathering, Tomasen comes up with a brilliant idea; he decides to confess his sexual orientation to his father. This way, his conservative father will surely kick him out of the house, allowing him to freely pursue his literary dreams. Tomasen shares this idea with Anthony, but unexpectedly, Anthony beats him to the punch and comes out in front of the family first. This unexpected news causes their father to have a heart attack, forcing Tomasen to temporarily put his plan on hold.
